Holidays limit studio posts

With the past month spent working on gifts for friends and family I've been limited on when I can post updates. Out of stress of completing the pieces that I was gifting I have neglected the blog and my current series.  Here are some of the pieces that have occupied my time this month.

Once I had those presents completed I was able to return to my series I'm working on

Playing around with some watercolor board, possibly keeping the color to a minimum if any at all on this last piece. However that idea could change
Stay tuned and thanks for stoping by to have a look.

Progress complete

Just finished this 9x12 piece I was commissioned to do. The medium I used was acrylic and the line work was a very specific acrylic based paint Molotow one4all. I get the marker refills and use it for all my line work.
In my opinion it's the best, not only does it dry super fast so I don't have to worry about it smearing. The fact that it's a super thin bodied paint and is very opaque makes it my preferred paint for this type of work.

Coffee shop sketch

This fellow came by and decided to plant himself down in my sketchbook. I find more often than not my pieces create themselves, sometimes it doesn't feel like I'm even drawing it.

Machines building machines

It's  another day of living the dream, painting, music, audiobooks and robots. It's hard to pin point why I love  using robots or mecha as a subject matter. In some ways I related to the idea of  mindlessly performing given tasks and fulfilling my part in the vastly mechanical world we live in. On the other end of the spectrum 'robots' I just too awesome not to paint or include in some way into my pieces.
(In progress still)

Cephalopod Bot

It feels great to be back in the studio working on new pieces, one of which is a commissioned piece. Cephalopod 'like' robotic piece 9"x12" black and white unframed on mixed media paper. It will be nice to be able to pay my phone bill finally.
Recently I have been in contact with a local gallery, Showing my current series next year could be a possibility.

Public art

The past few days I have been working on painting the back of a bench at a local coffee shop I frequent. Using a bunch of Renaissance and roman sculptures for referencing I've put my own twist on it. It's taking much longer then I anticipated but here's what I've got so far...

Eight hours

Somedays eight hours of painting seems to go by without any notice. Then I have days where I feel like I didn't get enough done. Looks like 14 hr days might prove more productive, I may go insane as a result but what the hell it's for the art!

Genesis

Finally I have started a blog, long past due but it has begun nonetheless.  On this blog I will be sharing my progress with my current work involving the theology of "digital natives"
I hope to capture those ideas through my art and express all the insecurities that come with it.

What's a studio?

In the back of my mind I've always wondered if  where I painted might be seen as unrefined or rather unprofessional. After having a conversation with a close friend and mentor of mine, makes his living as an artist about the environment an artist works in. More specifically whether or not it matters (in the art world) where the artists studio location may be. It might be in a loft or warehouse.
The end result is what's really important.

One may have a blazing hearth in one's soul and yet no one ever came to sit by it. Passers-by see only a wisp of smoke from the chimney and continue on their way.

Today I worked on another "solari" piece, translated directly it means "console" obviously this one is in the very early stages
